What We Do...

HUGS is a grassroots organization dedicated to collecting and distributing your unused hats, umbrellas, gloves and scarves for the homeless in New York.  Taking the first letters of Hats, Umbrellas, Gloves, and Scarves, we called it HUGS because not only do people need the warmth of clothes, but they need the warmth of a hug.

HUGS are distributed through community organizations, churches and temples, shelters and missions. In emergency situations such as Hurricane Sandy, relief organizations will also be utilized. Wherever there's a need, we'll be providing HUGS.

Besides working with homeless, the Hats, Umbrellas, Gloves, and Scarves that we collect from wonderfully generous folks like you are distributed through a partnership with an admirable organization called Project Find. This organization was established to provide low-income and homeless seniors with services and support so that they can live independently. Project Find operates five Senior Centers which serve over 3,000 people and three residences that house 600 people. For more information about Project Find, visit their website, www.projectfind.org.

Please help us provide as many HUGS as possible to the homeless, the elderly and the needy by donating today

PS 95 Poster Contest

Public School 95 in Queens, NY organized a poster contest for our HUGS organization. There were 45 submitted posters from grades K-5. The overwhelming response from the children, teachers, parents, and administration came to light at the awards ceremony on Friday, February 15th.  The top 14 HUGS' posters were selected by the Eastwood School administration. We had the daunting task of selecting the top 3 winners and an honorable mention to Matthew Sierra of the Kindergarten class.
NY1 VIDEO: Around 1,400 students at P.S. 95 in Jamaica, Queens participated in the campaign for HUGS, an organization dedicated to collecting hats, umbrellas, gloves and scarves for the city's homeless.
